About Dunya: Arabic food in the heart of Mannheim
A restaurant in the middle of Mannheim where people eat together, share their food and like to linger a little longer.
Dunya is Arabic for “world” – and the name suits our menu. It stretches from Syrian kharouf mahshi to mansaf, the lamb speciality from Jordan, and maqluba, which is turned upside down onto the plate. At its heart is Levantine cooking – and the Levantine way of eating: together, with lots of little bowls on the table.
What’s on the table
An evening with us usually starts with mezze. Hummus, moutabal, muhammara and tabbouleh go in the middle of the table and everyone helps themselves with flatbread. Then it’s on to the grill: shish taouk, tikka skewers or the Dunya mixed grill, where several skewers share one plate.
To finish, there’s knafeh – served warm, filled with cheese, soaked in syrup and paired with a small glass of tea. If you’d like to stay a while, order Arabic coffee or a pot of black tea, kept warm on a little burner for as long as the conversation flows.
Our place at H1 5
Dunya sits in Mannheim’s grid of city-centre blocks, a few steps from the Marktplatz. The restaurant is lively and cosy at the same time, with a modern look and Middle Eastern touches. We’re open every day from 12 noon to 10 pm – for a quick lunch as much as for a long evening with family and friends.
The restaurant has its own event hall for around 70–80 guests. Families celebrate birthdays and engagements here, and companies hold team events and Christmas parties.
Beyond the restaurant
With our catering we also cook for celebrations elsewhere: weddings, corporate events, family gatherings. We deliver in Mannheim and within around 70 km, with no minimum order.
The restaurant is run by Dunya Restaurant GmbH, based in Mannheim. Questions, compliments or criticism – we’re always glad to hear from you. You’ll find every way to reach us under contact & directions.
