Breaded chicken schnitzel isn’t something the Arab world borrowed from Germany – it has been at home there for a long time. In Egypt and the Levant it’s called panée, from the French pané. If you miss the schnitzel your family makes in Beirut or Cairo, this one will feel like home.

Pounded thin, fried golden

The chicken fillet is pounded thin so it cooks evenly, carefully breaded and fried until golden. Crisp outside, juicy inside – that’s all it needs. The fresh lemon slices are part of the deal: a squeeze of acidity brings the coating to life.

A full plate

The schnitzel comes with crispy fries, colourful steamed vegetables, coleslaw and a garlic dip. The vegetables are the lighter part of the plate, and the coleslaw adds freshness.

Three schnitzels, three characters

Panée is the original. Add a creamy béchamel and mushroom sauce and it becomes the Chicken Schnitzel à la Béchamel. Topped with melted cheese, it’s the Chicken Schnitzel au Fromage. And if you like it even crunchier, try our crispy chicken on pasta.

At the table

Sambousek bil jibne or a lentil soup make good starters. For family parties in our event hall, the schnitzel is a safe bet for kids and anyone who prefers something familiar.

FAQ

Good to know

What does ‘panée’ mean?

It comes from the French ‘pané’, meaning breaded. In Egypt and the Levant, it’s the name for breaded chicken schnitzel.

Is the meat halal?

Yes, all the meat at Dunya is halal.

How is it different from your other schnitzels?

Panée is the plain version, with no sauce. À la béchamel comes with a mushroom béchamel sauce, and au fromage is topped with melted cheese. All three have the same sides.

Is the schnitzel suitable for children?

Lots of families order it for their kids: chicken, a crispy coating and fries. The garlic dip can simply be left out.
